I recently gave my office a complete makeover. The color, the furniture, the lighting, the wall art, everything. Everything about the energy of the space changed.
Quite honestly, I spend most of my time here. It’s where I work. It’s where I workout. Occasionally eat. It’s where I lead calls. It’s where I get my inspiration. It’s where I pray. It’s where I meditate. It’s where I make videos. It’s where I write.
I’m going to share something with you that I’ve thought about for a while. I don’t share it to brag or boast or compare. It’s not a story about money. It’s a story about freedom. It’s a story about a girl who dared to believe she deserved to live a life she wanted to live.
I didn’t quit my job four years ago because I was making a lot of money. I quit my job because I believed in the words my mentor taught me. She told me to be faithful with the little things before I can ever expect more. She taught me about having an attitude of gratitude.
It’s been nearly three months since J and I had our epic adventure in New York and I’ll be honest, I’m feeling so nostalgic this morning. I miss it and I miss the awesome time we got to have together.
But my project I started this week has been the absolute best thing for me. When you feel down or a little sad, the best thing to do to to go out and do something for someone. Since I opened my heart to being very intentional about writing cards daily, endless opportunities are coming my way to enrich someone’s life.
In order to get better, we must practice. Practice forms habits and habits allow us to be consistent. You’ve made up your mind that you’re ready to get healthy! You’ve got a plan and now you must follow through with that plan. There is nothing about what you do that needs to be elaborate, unachievable or difficult to overcome. In order for your plan to work, all you need to do is to show up.
I believe my children were placed into my life to teach me lessons about myself, to unravel layers of my own insecurities and to help me overcome them. But when my first child was placed into my life unexpectedly, at age 5, there was no “learning curve” or “growth factor”. I was expected to know what to do every day and in every way or was looked at like I was some sort of alien invading his precious space.
Kids are smart. They know how to work and weave and finagle their way to positive results.
“Can I have another dessert?”
“No, we better not.”
“Oooookay” (sad, droopy, pathetically sad big eyes)
My transformation started in December with a simple decision. I was tired of feeling bloated, not fitting in my jeans, and not feeling my best. I was also tired of making excuses for the things I was eating. It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t necessary and it was totally without intention.
So just a week after turning 40, when I just expected to be in the best shape ever…I found myself in a place I hadn’t been in several years. Granted, it wasn’t awful, but I didn’t feel comfortable in my skin anymore. I needed something that excited me and gave me a reason to want to commit!
I’m a woman phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, that’s me.
That’s a line from one of my very favorite Maya Angelou poems. So bold. So courageous. So true. If I love it so much why do I struggle with my very own phenomenal(ness)? Why have I placed so many limiting beliefs on myself? If I am truly phenomenal, then I shouldn’t have any doubts about who I am or the life I’m creating,
right?
Enjoy the journey. Trust the process. Keep calm and carry on.
We see it. We get it. We read it. We write it. But do we LIVE it?
If we are progressing. We are growing. We are being challenged. We are feeling discomfort.
We want progress quickly and efficiently with relatively no pitfalls along the way.
We would prefer the road to ‘success’ to be a straight A to B line.
Is Cheating Okay? It seems like an easy question to answer when you ask it that way. Right? Then why do we make “cheat meals” acceptable? If cheating is wrong, then so should cheat meals. Right?
Not really.
I’m perfectly okay with adding so-called “cheat meals” into our lives, however, I’m not really cool with the term “cheat”. It makes it seem like it’s something that’s scandalous, naughty or shameful.
